Married couple Jimmy and Ashlee Brown formed their band, appropriately named Matrimony, “out of a common desire to make good, honest music.” And that is exactly what they’ve done. The Storm and The Eye is a beautiful set of songs that cross Americana, Irish folk, and pop. Opening track starts out with Ashlee’s clear, gorgeous vocals singing about love, accompanied by rambling, soft banjo. Jimmy, originally from Belfast, and Ashlee, from Charlotte, NC, take turns on vocals throughout The Storm & The Eye; think of them as a more bluegrass-y Swell Season. “Flee Or Fight” is full of passion, with Jimmy taking lead vocals, singing about taking the road less traveled. Using violin, mandolin, banjo and bouzouki, they fill each song with a homespun warmth that is instantly likable. It’s fitting that a group named Matrimony makes music that is so personal, beautiful and timeless. – Written by DBosket
