Mice Parade’s latest release, What It Means to Be Left-Handed, takes pop music and infuses it with worldly elements, including vocals from Senegalese singer Somi and flamenco guitar. Frontman Adam Pierce steers his band’s sixth album from the opening track, the rich Afro-pop influenced “Kupanda,” to more dramatic pop fare that is more akin to Canada’s Stars. Pierce sounds like he’s having fun keeping things a bit random and loose. And while as a whole, What It Means to Be Left-Handed is not the most cohesive album, each track is brimming with its own character. “Old Hat” has gorgeous, flitting guitar work that is heavy and cinematic, while “Tokyo Late At Night” is a stylish keyboard-laden track that is minimal, slick and modern. – Written by DBosket
