Following their critically acclaimed 2018 debut full-length Evergreen, the roots rockers Michigan Rattlers – now a four-piece band – picked-up where their previous album left off, adding a richer, more rockin’ sound to That Kind of Life. According to lead vocalist Graham Young, “this is a record about love and loss” which the pandemic made even more significant. Lyrically, the Rattler’s are known for speaking about the people, experiences, and places that shaped the band, and That Kind of Life expands upon these timeless themes. Standout tracks include: the moody opening track “The Storm”; the somber acoustic number “More Than Just A Dream”; the upbeat rocker “That Kind of Life”; the vivid love ballad “Like a Kid”; and the anthemic closing track “Desert Heart.” Michigan Rattlers’ That Kind of Life finds the band becoming more seasoned performers and songwriters on this very solid sophomore record. I look forward to seeing how they evolve on future releases. – Written by JFelton
