Singer/songwriter Molly Burch has studied and lived in music-steeped places, growing-up in L.A., attending the University of North Carolina Asheville, where she studied jazz vocal performance, and finally relocating and recording her debut in Austin, Please Be Mine. A large part of Please Be Mine was written about her boyfriend and band guitarist Dailey Toliver (Adam Torres) and mixes influences like Dusty Springfield and Patsy Cline with modern sensibilities like dream pop and contemporary indie music. Please Be Mine was recorded live (with few overdubs) in a single day and perfectly captures the romanticism of 1950’s/60’s era of music with plenty of experimentation to keep things fresh. Standouts include: the album’s centerpiece – it’s title track; the subtle guitar twang number “Wrong for You”; the hazy pop apology “Please Forgive Me”; the Patsy Cline-esque “Torn to Pieces”; and the retro styled slow jam, “Fool.” Molly Burch’s Please Be Mine is a solid debut and Burch is definitely someone you’ll want to keep an eye on. – Written by JFelton
