Portland, OR’s Nurses – the trio of Aaron Chapman, John Bowers and James Mitchell – return to the scene with their 11 song collection of psych-pop, Dracula. While 2009’s Apples Acres hosted a more vintage psych-folk sound, Dracula sees the band focusing on pop melodies with infectious hooks. Forgoing the city for a makeshift DIY studio on the isolated Pacific coast, the band did triple duty as songwriters, musicians, and producers, managing the process throughout the album’s creative evolution. Nurses put on the final touches (i.e. mixing with Julian Martlew) at Scott Colburn’s (Arcade Fire, Animal Collective, Sun City Girls) Seattle-based Gravelvoice Studios, resulting in a tight set of excellent pop songs. – Written by SMarx
