Noah Lennox has returned with his fourth Panda Bear album, Tomboy, four years after 2007’s Person Pitch and more recently, 2009’s Merriwether Post Pavilion with Animal Collective. Lennox’s music is incredibly soothing to listen to, with its multi-layered repetitive beats and choral-like vocals. The lead-off track “You Can Count On Me” sounds like a modern madrigal with its slow, patient harmony and expansive, echoeing samples and sounds in the background. The album also picks up the pace, with some more upbeat tracks that benefit from Lennox’s meticulous arrangements and ability to create lush, hypnotic music that both relaxes and invigorates the soul. Panda Bear/Animal Collective fans will not be disappointed, as this new release really delivers the goods. – Written by DBosket
