Hailing from small town Oklahoma, 20 year old singer/songwriter Parker Millsap returns with his self-titled sophomore release. The new album features Millsap’s weathered beyond his years sounding vocals alongside narrative songs that combine melodic folk, blues and country tinged arrangements. Millsap (vocals, guitar, resonator, drums) is accompanied by Michael Rose (upright/electric bass, bowed saw), Daniel Foulks (fiddle, strings), Giovanni Carnuccio III (drums), David Leach (trombone), Marcus Spitz (trumpet) and Eric Walschap (baritone sax) with guest vocals from Samantha Crain on “Disappear.” Album highlights include tales about: a warped killer on “Old Time Religion”; placing hope on a lottery ticket “Yosemite”; leaving small town life on “Disappear”; and the bluesy “Land of the Red Man” and “Forgive Me.” Parker Millsap is one of the best new artist debuts so far this year. – Written by JFelton
