Adventures In Your Own Backyard is the latest masterpiece by the relatively little-known Canadian singer-songwriter Patrick Watson. A longtime critical favorite in his homeland, Watson’s previous two albums were Polaris prize caliber, winning the award in 2007 for Close to Paradise (besting Arcade Fire and Feist), and placing as a finalist with 2010’s Wooden Arms. Following five long years of international tours, Watson and his band just wanted to be home and celebrate the simplicity and greatness of the familiar. Not only is the album about home, it was recorded there, live off the floor, and the resulting 13 track collection of indie rock is a work of beauty. Infused with classical music references and lush acoustic and electric soundscapes, Adventures in Your Own Backyard is yet another success Watson’s venerable discography. – Written by SMarx
