Pharis and Jason Romero – A Wanderer I’ll Stay

  • July 5, 2015

Hailing from Horsefly, British Columbia husband-and-wife duo Pharis and Jason Romero released their third full-length, A Wanderer I’ll Stay. This 12 track set picks-up where 2013’s Long Gone Out West Blues left off and includes the seamless interplay of Pharis’ guitar, Jason’s banjo and their beautiful vocal harmonies. A Wanderer I’ll Stay has a rustic backwoods charm that spans a range of songs, both traditional and original over several genres including bluegrass, country and blues. Recorded with David Travers-Smith (Oh Susanna, the Wailin’ Jennys) in the Romero’s Banjo Company workshop with a few guest musicians playing instruments pedal steel and fiddle rounding out the sound. A few notable tracks include: the stark Civil War song “The Dying Solider”; the 1936 Billy Mayhew song “It’s a Sin to Tell a Lie”; the old cowboy ballad “Goodbye Old Paint”; the original “Ballad of Old Bill”; a rollicking cover of “Cocaine Blues”; and the country blues number “New Lonesome Blues.” A Wanderer I’ll Stay is another collection of polished and timelessly old time music at it’s finest! – Written by JFelton
