Seattle-based quartet Poor Moon is a side project of Fleet Foxes bassist Christian Wargo who here performs vocal and songwriting duties along with Casey Wescott (keyboard) and brothers Ian and Peter Murray. Their eponymous full length debut is a short album (clocking in at thirty minutes) of familiar pastoral indie folk/rock. Its no coincidence that these Sub Pop label holders are steeped in the local music scene, with Wargo and Wescott having performed together indie bands Pedro the Lion and Crystal Skulls. However their sound it not simply a Fleet Foxes knock-off – the lush orchestrations on these somber songs are tinged with experimental impulses and touches of imagination. Standout tracks include opener “Clouds Below”, “Heaven’s Door”, and “Waiting For.” – Written by SMarx
