Rachel Brooke of Detroit, MI is a new voice on the country scene who recently self-released one of my current favorite albums, Down in the Barnyard. With a traditional, old-time country style and a charming voice – think Gillian Welch only less Americana, more twang – Brooke turns out simple and earnest songs. Standout tracks include “The Barnyard”, “Mean Kind of Blues”, and the locally inspired, seven minute narrative “The Legend of Morrow Road.” – Written by JFelton
