Nashville based singer/songwriter Rayland Baxter’s sound has evolved from the stripped down acoustic vibe of his 2012 debut LP Feathers & Fishhooks to a richer, more melodic indie rock on his latest record, Imaginary Man. The son of acclaimed pedal steel player Bucky Baxter (Bob Dylan, Steve Earle, R.E.M.), Baxter forges a sound uniquely his own, complete with expansive, sweet harmonies and catchy hooks alongside smart yet unpretentious songwriting. Album highlights include: the grandiose “Oh My Captain”; the gorgeously sad breakup tune “All in My Head”; the fuzzed-out bluesy Southern rocker “Young Man”; the sun -kissed “Mother Mother”; and the Harry Nilsson inspired “Yellow Eyes.” I look forward to seeing where he goes next with his music. – Written by JFelton
