Nashville singer/songwriter Reuben Bidez’s debut EP, Turning to Wine, finds him ruminating on how our culture became so self-medicated. Bidez originally hails from Atlanta where he discovered he had a flair for guitar at a local music store, which he further refined at church, followed by flexing his songwriting chops while playing in a number of college rock bands. Turning to Wine came soon after Bidez moved to Nashville to pursue music more seriously. The EP showcases Bidez’s honeyed vocals, guitar skills, and his deeply personal and honest songwriting style. Highlights include: the opening title track; the haunting folk rocker “Can We Survive”; and the Jeff Buckley-esque “Tides.” Bidez has released a string of well received songs in addition to the excellent “Turning to Wine.” I can’t wait for a full-length album from this young talent. – Written by JFelton
