The Roadside Graves – We Can Take Care of Ourselves

AUTUMN TONE

New Jersey rockers The Roadside Graves are releasing their artistic take on S.E. Hinton’s classic coming of age story The Outsiders with the eleven song album We Can Take Care of Ourselves. Inspired by the influential novel, The Roadside Graves explore the elements of the novel and characters – themes, feelings, and settings – not simply retelling the tale or setting the narrative to music. The concept treads dangerous ground, but the band successfully pulls it off. We Can Take Care of Ourselves avoids the pitfalls of sounding like a retro album, instead taking the deliberate approach of keeping songs modern with occasional tones and melodies that evoke the era of Greasers and the Socs. This accomplished album deserves a wholehearted listen, if not for the creative take on The Outsiders, then for the music itself. – Written by JFelton
