Australian-born singer/songwriter Ruby Boots (aka Rebecca Louise Chilcott) follows a series of well received EP’s and her excellent 2016 full-length debut, Solitude, with Don’t Talk About It. Chilcott enlisted the excellent group Texas Gentlemen as her backing band as well as support from friend Nikki Lane, who co-wrote the title track and provides backing vocals. Don’t Talk About It is a set of sassy, whip-smart songs reflecting upon relationships, break-ups, heartbreak and all the things that come along with a relationship ending. This album is a little less twangy than her previous outings; this time Chilcott seems to be taking more cues from classic rock. Album highlights include: the infectiously sassy opening track “It’s So Cruel”; the soulful Nikki Lane penned title-track; the tom Petty-esque “Easy Way Out;” the catchy mid-tempo number “I’ll Make It Through”; the driving doo-wop inspired track, “Believe in Heaven”; the heartbreaking ballad “Break My Heart Twice”; and the acapella show-stopper, “I Am a Woman.” Don’t Talk About It is, in short, an excellent album and will be in my heavy rotation this Spring! – Written by JFelton
