Ryley Walker – Golden Sings That Have Been Sung

  • October 9, 2016

Last year’s Primrose Green was an experiment in 60’s folk-soul that recalls Terry Callier, Tim Buckley and Van Morrison’s “Astral Weeks.” On his latest, Golden Sings That Have Been Sung, singer/songwriter and guitarist Ryley Walker shifts focus, releasing a set of long, free flowing tracks that seem to roll together into one. Here he combines elements of psych-folk guitar, soul melodies, jazz percussion rhythms, and subdued bass in arrangements that ebb and swell. Standout tracks are: the brilliant opening track “The Halfwit in Me”; the psychedelic chamber pop of “A Choir Apart”; the midtempo folk-rocker “The Roundabout”; and the jazz influenced closer, “Age Old Tale.” Walker continues to push himself and grow as a songwriter and musician on Golden Sings That Have Been Sung, and I look forward to see where he goes next. – Written by JFelton
