More or less, The Sacred Shakers is a collective that includes Boston’s Tarbox Ramblers and the Eilen Jewell Band, and their latest release was recorded at Cambridge’s Lizard Lounge. Live consists of 14 revival gospel blues standards that aren’t too well known but here find new life with with simple arrangements and lovely vocal harmonies. Highlights include: ‘ All Night, All Day”; “Satan Your Kingdom Must Come Down”; “Take Me In Your Lifeboat”; and “You Better Quit Drinking Shine.” These richly textured and spirited interpretations are both engaging and satisfying; Live is an album not to be missed. Lastly, if you missed their 2008 self-titled debut, be sure to pick it up as well. – Written by JFelton
