Jason Isbell’s 400 Unit guitarist Sadler Vaden follows-up his stellar 2016 self-titled debut with Anybody Out There? Vaden has built a strong reputation over the past two decades as one of the most versatile Americana guitarists, first logging time with the country-punk band Drivin’ N Cryin’ before joining the 400 Unit in 2013. Anybody Out There? is an eclectic album that segues seamlessly from big fat distortion-laden riffs to stripped-down acoustic songs and space jams, all while layering in everything from power-pop to Americana to fill in the spaces. Standout tracks include: the classic rock-tinged opening “Next to You”; the reverb-soaked title track; the Joe Walsh-inspired “Golden Child”; the twangy “Good Man”; the slower acoustic number “Don’t Worry”; the space jam “Modern Times”; and the Tom Petty-esque closer “Tried And True.” Sadler Vaden’s Anybody Out There? takes the best elements of classic rock and Americana music and made it his own. – Written by JFelton
