Seattle singer-songwriter Sera Cahoone has spent her career in obscurity despite having played with bands like Carissa’s Weird and Band of Horses and having a couple of critically acclaimed but often overlooked solo albums. Cahoone’s most recent release Deer Creek Canyon is her first album in four years and finds her contemplating her roots. Deer Creek Canyon takes its title from the Colorado canyon where Cahoone grew-up, and was recorded at the scenic Bear Creek Studio in Woodinville, WA, resulting in a another set of hauntingly beautiful often bittersweet country and folk songs that are intricately crafted with captivating stories that slowly unwind. The single that would most likely standout to most listeners would be “Naked”, but be sure to give a listen to the traditional country inspired “Nervous Wreck”, the upbeat folk tune “Every Little Word”, the gorgeously melancholic “And Still We Move”, the stirring “Rumpshaker”, and the stripped-down version/bonus track “Dog Song.” Perhaps Deer Creek Canyon will be the album that finds its way to a wider audience and further acclaim for an extremely talented and deserving musician. – Written by JFelton
