The most famous Icelandic music makers aside from Björk, minimalist post-rockers Sigur Rós have released Inní, their first live album with black and white concert film directed by Vincent Morisset. This phenomenal double disc features the band’s final live shows (the band is currently on hiatus) at London’s Alexandra Palace in November 2008, which includes material from their entire discography but pulls primarily from 2005’s Takk (“Thanks”) and 2008’s Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust (“With a Buzz in Our Ears We Play Endlessly”). The band showcases their characteristic atmospheric sound with slow, beautiful ambient build-ups, and frontman Jónsi Birgisson’s bowed guitar and haunting, high vocals. Inní is a spectacular piece of work to behold; a faithful rendering of the live experience while also functioning as a “best of” and tribute to an amazing band. – Written by JFelton
