On Spoon’s ninth studio album Hot Thoughts, the band continues to evolve and experiment with its sound resulting in an extremely danceable indie pop album. Hot Thoughts is built upon trippy instrumentation, groovable club beats, and clever lyrical play, with frontman Britt Daniel’s reverb soaked vocals keeping things fresh and catchy. Standout tracks include: the driving “Shotgun”; the funk-pop romance of “Can I Sit Next To You”; the twinkling “Do I Have to Talk You Into It”; the danceable “First Caress”; the Bowie-esque “WhisperI’lllistentohearit”; the piano-driven rock anthem “Tear it Down”; and the dreamy instrumental “Us” which closes the album. Hot Thoughts is a stellar album and another testament to the enduring talent of the band as they make inroads to new and captivating sounds. – Written by JFelton
