Outside is the third full-length release from Minneapolis band Tapes ‘n Tapes. Released on their own label, Ibid Records, Outside is a return to the indie world after an unsuccessful sophomore outing with XL records. It seems like this is just what the band and their fans needed, as this new album is closer to their debut, Loon, with some fine songwriting and eccentric, charming style. “One in the World” has a festive tone, while “Nightfall” and “Mighty Long” show Tapes ‘n Tapes’ talent for writing well-thought out, satisfying songs. “Hidee Ho” is a slow-burner of a song that starts off with a gentle, rambling guitar that boils up into a crescendo of “Hey! Hey! Hey!” chants. These guys, showing shades of The Walkmen and The Coral, prove on this album that they’re back to form and ready to move forward. – Written by DBosket
