Tellico – Woven Waters

  • February 25, 2019

Formed in 2015 by three members of the popular bluegrass band Dehlia Low, the Asheville, NC band Tellico follows-up their debut, Relics and Roses, with their sophomore release, Woven Waters. The band is Anya Hinkle (guitar, fiddle, vocals), Greg Stiglets (bass, harmonica, vocals), Aaron Ballance (dobro, lap steel) and Jed Willis (mandolin and electric guitar). This time around, Tellico blends bluegrass with British Isle influences courtesy of producer and bouzouki player John Doyle (Eileen Ivers, Tim O’Brien). Under Doyle’s guidance, Tellico interweaves mandolin, banjo, dobro and guitar with varied chords structures and dynamic rhythms. Notable tracks include: the Martin Luther King Jr. inspired opening track “Courage For the Morning”; “Salsa” which celebrates the companionship of a dog; the coal country tale “Ballad of Zona Abston”; the rambling “West of the Cumberlands”; and the contemplative closer, “Like November.” Tellico’s Woven Waters is a solid album that any bluegrass fan will enjoy! – Written by JFelton
