The Deep Dark Woods have been slowly transitioning into a project led by original members singer/bassist/guitarist Ryan Boldt and keyboardist Geoff Hilhorst along with current collaborators Evan Cheadle (guitar), Leon Power (drums), Mike Silverman (drums), Erik Nielsen (bass), Clayton Linthicum (bass), and Kacy Anderson (guitar and backing vocals). On Changing Faces, the band masterfully shifts through different styles like Appalachian folk, doo-wop, Celtic folk and more, while maintaining a cohesive sound and feel throughout the album. Album highlights include: the woozy doo-wop opening number “Treacherous Waters”; the spare and somber “Anathea”; the slow-burning lament “Everything Reminds Me”; the sad, lilting waltz “How Could I Ever Be Single Again?”; the country soul-tinged “My Love For You Is Gone”; the beautifully pastoral “In The Meadow”; and the slowly unraveling closing track “Yarrow.” The Deep Dark Woods’ Changing Faces is a tender and polished album that fits perfectly with the band’s evolution and discography. – Written by JFelton
