The Dallas-based collective The Texas Gentlemen follow-up their excellent 2017 TX Jelly release with Floor It!!! – another tight set of country funk and psych-rock complete with loads of retro guitar licks and upbeat energy. Floor It!!! combines the band’s many influences from the past with fresh sounds while capturing the infectious spark of their live shows in a studio recording. The 13-tracks that comprise the LP have a burnout’s charm that sways from funky numbers to instrumentals and smooth soul grooves, to spaced-out jams and a ton of ‘70’s pop hooks. Album highlights include: the irresistible funk-laiden “Bare Maximum”; the Harry Nilsson-esque pop of “Hard Rd.”; the twangy swagger of the title-track; the woozy ’70s vibed “Train to Avesta”; the captivating love song “Sing Me To Sleep”; and the tripped-out “Ain’t Nothin’ New.” Partly recorded at FAME in Muscle Shoals and a few Texas studios, The Texas Gentlemen have not only put out one of the most fun albums of the year but have also crafted one of the most polished albums of the year with Floor It!!! The album takes some of the best sounds from the past and makes them sound fresh again. – Written by JFelton
