Tim Darcy, the singer/guitarist of Montreal’s exuberant art-punk band Ought, has released his solo debut, Saturday Night – an Americana album with hints of Roy Orbison and David Byrne. Saturday Night features reflective and somewhat wrought storytelling alongside spare instrumentation involving guitars, drums, bass, and piano. Highlights include: the tranquil Roy Orbison-esque “Still Waking Up,” the garage rock touched “You Felt Comfort”; the rollicking “Tall Glass of Water” and “Joan Pt. 1, 2”; and the spare piano ballad “What’d You Release?”. I really like where Darcy is going with his solo effort and can’t wait to see how he evolves as newer young talent!
