Canadian sound artist Tim Hecker spent the past decade making a name for himself as a leader in atmospheric indie rock. Hecker, who previously played under the moniker Jetone, is back with his sixth solo full-length album, Ravedeath, 1972. Recorded over the course of one day at a Reykjavik, Iceland church, Ravedeath, 1972 is a richly textured, darkly ambient seven song collection that relies heavily on the use of pipe organ (and to great, haunting effect). Hecker mixes the organ with other instruments and electronica, including guitar, keyboards, taped and computerized sounds. All of this is pulled together with the help of Icelandic producer/engineer Ben Frost, resulting in another gorgeous album by Hecker. – Written by JFelton
