Portland-based musician Tommy Alexander follows-up his 2019 release Baby You’re Blue with his third LP Waves. The album was recorded in December 2019 with fellow local troubadour Bart Budwig, who helped shape Alexander’s honest and poetic storytelling into an album of tearjerker ballads and satisfying Americana rockers. While Alexander’s music draws heavily from Americana and classic country genres, he also adds folk, pop and indie rock to the mix. Notable tracks include: the excellent opening track “Troubled Mind”; the rambling “End of the World”; the gut-wrenching “Stone Fox”; the emotive folk song “I Blame Myself”; the heavyhearted country ballad “Doing Things Together”; the sleepy country ditty “Tears”; the chill-out folk number “Whatever You Say”; and the up-tempo track “Live & Die.” Tom Alexander’s Waves is a great album from this up-and-coming Pacific Northwest talent. – Written by JFelton
