Regular readers of Record Dept. may have noticed that San Francisco’s Ty Segall (The Traditional Fools, Epsilons, Party Fowl, Sic Alps, and The Perverts) is a frequently cited musician in the “Similar” section of reviews due to the appeal of and his versatility with scuzz-punk and indie rock sounds and because he is a rising star that deserves wider exposure. The prolific young singer/songwriter has a new full length album Goodbye Bread – his seventh in three years – and it is a tight set of 10 enjoyable lo-fi rock tunes filled with catchy hooks and his distinctly high vocals. Goodbye Bread shows Segall progressing from his punk roots into a richer soundscape where psychedelia, garage rock and even blues have place. Standouts include “I Can’t Feel It”, “My Head Explodes”, and “The Floor.” – Written by JFelton
