Vetiver’s (aka singer/songwriter Andy Cabic) seventh album, Up on High, is a return to the sunny, atmospheric acoustic folk of their first couple of albums like 2006’s To Find Me Gone, 2008’s Thing of the Past, and 2009’s Tight Knit. Up on High is a rustic psych-folk album that draws upon late 60’s/early 70’s acoustic folk. Standout tracks include: the gentle opening track “The Living End”; the Wilco-esque “Filigree”; the jangly folk-pop track “Sway”; the plucky lead single “To Who Knows Where”; the lofty title track; the upbeat California wildfire-referencing “Hold Tight”; and the charming album closer “Lost (In Your Eyes).” Vetiver’s Up on High is one of my favorite albums of 2019 and is a welcome return to the success the band found in the mid-2000’s. It’s an enjoyable listen – one of Cabic’s best to date! – Written by JFelton
