Western Centuries – Songs from the Deluge

  • May 6, 2018

A bit of a Pacific Northwest supergroup, the Western Centuries is a trio fronted by singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Cahalen Morrison and supported by Ethan Lawton (Zoe Muth) on drums and guitar, and singer/songwriter Jim Miller (Donna the Buffalo) on guitar, with all three participating on vocals. Western Centuries follows-up 2016’s critically acclaimed debut Weight of the World with Songs from the Deluge – a warm-toned album that draws its core inspiration from traditional country sounds with touches of rock and roll, Cajun, and soul. Songs from the Deluge was produced by acclaimed Cajun fiddler Joel Savoy, who helped bring a Louisiana flavor to the album. Album highlights include: the Cajun style opening track “Far from Home”; the honky-tonk gem “My Own Private Honky Tonk”; the superb Eagles-esque “Earthly Justice”; the hard-luck tale on “Cloud of Woes”; the boogie-woogie touched “How Many More Miles to Babylon”; the soulful track “Three Swallows”; and The Band inspired “Rocks and Flame.” Songs from the Deluge is a polished set of twelve songs that perfectly encapsulates all the things that make country music great! The Western Centuries do not disappoint and I can’t wait for more. – Written by JFelton
