Iowa based singer/songwriter and horse farmer William Elliott Whitmore is out with his eighth full-length album Field Songs. Following 2009’s bluesy Animals in the Dark, this eight song cycle takes a different lyrical focus, with Whitmore shining his gruff hollers and howls on American history, politics and societal issues, accompanied by acoustic guitar, banjo, drums and field recordings of birds and crickets. In sound and scope, troubadour Whitmore is delving in the tradition of twenty-first century American folk songs, painting a candid picture of injustice and making a call for change. Check out Field Songs for an inspiring listen. – Written by JFelton
