London-based Yuck was first noticed on the Internet in late 2009, and their fast rise to (semi) notoriety has resulted in their self-titled debut – an album that harkens back to alternative bands of the ‘90s. Looking beyond the depressing fact that teens already consider ‘90s bands to be retro, Yuck’s youthful four-piece is strongly indebted to bands like Dinosaur Jr., The Pixies, Guided By Voices and Pavement. And for the 42-minute runtime of the album, I was almost convinced I was still in college, listening to my Sony Discman. These guys do a very admirable job of infusing these influences into their songs, with jangly, distorted guitars, winsome slacker melodies and a youthful spirit. – Written by DBosket
